Custom Buffalo Bills Jerseys | Buffalo Bills Throwback Jersey
Our throwback Buffalo Bills jerseys reflect one of the most exciting eras in Buffalo Bills' history. Established on October 28, 1959, the Buffalo Bills were a charter member of the newly formed American Football League. This later became the National Football League. They have played an iconic role in football history ever since.
Since its inception, the team has had ups and downs. However, both the team and its jerseys have remained popular with fans.
In the 1970s, the team quickly formed division rivalries with the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, and New England Patriots. This was when the Buffalo Bills jerseys took on their bold appearance. However, it was during the early 1990s when the Buffalo Bills' true potential began to shine.
The early 1990s were somewhat of a golden era in Buffalo Bills' history, as they made it to the Super Bowl in four consecutive seasons between 1990 and 1993. Several of our custom Buffalo Bills jerseys were styled after the ones worn by players in the early 1990s.
Fans were thrilled in 1990 when the team edged out the Los Angeles Raiders in the playoffs and headed to the Super Bowl for the first time. Super Bowl XXV was held in Tampa, FL, where the team would face the New York Giants. The Bills, led by legendary quarterback Jim Kelly, looked unstoppable as they headed up to the big game.
The game was close up until the very end and featured several great plays, including Thurman Thomas’s touchdown after running 135 yards. However, in the end, the Bills missed on a last play field goal attempt and lost the game 20-19.
The big win remained elusive in the next few seasons as they continued to make it to the Super Bowl only to be defeated. The Bills lost to the Washington Redskins in 1991, and the Dallas Cowboys in both 1992 & 1993. Marv Levy was the head coach throughout all four Super Bowl appearances. Jim Kelly remained the quarterback for the team until his retirement in 1996 and remains one of the most respected players in football history.
However, it wasn’t a lack of style that led to these disappointments. With their signature royal blue, red, and white colors, Buffalo Bills uniforms have remained relatively unchanged since the 1970s, retaining their bold, attractive appearance. These vintage football jerseys also feature striping on the sleeves, with red accents around the numbers.
The Buffalo Bills have retired three player numbers in their history, including #12, #34, and #78. All three of these numbers belonged to players who were a huge part of the team's success in the early 1990s. These retired numbers belonged to quarterback Jim Kelly, running back Thurman Thomas, and pass rusher Bruce Smith. All three players and head coach Marv Levy are part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame for their teamwork and exceptional performance during those years.
A custom Buffalo Bills throwback jersey is a great way to honor these illustrious players while re-living their great accomplishments.
