The Nashville Predators play in the Central Division of the NHL's Western Conference. The team began its existence in 1998 as an NHL expansion franchise. Though the first few seasons were rough for the upstart team, the Predators rapidly improved on the ice. Their performance in the 2003-04 season, when they ended up with a 38–29–11–4 record, earned them a spot in the playoffs for the first time.
The franchise kicked off the 2005-06 season with eight consecutive victories, a feat no NHL team had achieved in over a decade. They would go on to qualify for the playoffs in 2006, 2007, and 2008. The Predators' Steve Sullivan was awarded the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for valiantly coming back from serious injury to play in the 2008-09 season.
The next decade saw the Predators completing their transformation into a truly first-rate team, making the 2017 Stanley Cup Finals, where they lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins in six games. In the following season, the team claimed their first Presidents' Trophy.
