The history of the Arizona Diamondbacks is not a long one, but they have already racked up some impressive achievements. They played their first season in 1998 as an expansion franchise, taking up residence at Chase Field (since renamed Bank One Ballpark) in Downtown Phoenix.
That first season wasn't particularly promising—they lost 97 games—but the Diamondbacks soon improved considerably. In their second season, they placed first in the NL West and earned their first playoff spot. But it was the 2001 season that saw the Diamondbacks make history. Not only did they win the NL West again, they tore through the post-season and got all the way to the World Series. They went on to beat the legendary New York Yankees in a thrilling seven-game series. And the Diamondbacks did it in only their fourth season in the majors! Since then, the Diamondbacks have won multiple division titles but have yet to make a return to the Fall Classic.
