On April 18, 1923, the team played their first game at Yankee Stadium.
In 1936, center fielder Joe DiMaggio stepped in to fill the void left by the recently retired Ruth. During his 13-year career, DiMaggio helped the Yankees win nine World Series championships. He also set one of the most enduring records in sports: his 56-game hitting streak, achieved during the 1941 season. During the DiMaggio era, another future legend joined the team: Yogi Berra (1946). Other superstars signed on around this time, including Whitey Ford (1950) and Mickey Mantle (1951), while Roger Maris came aboard in 1960.
