New Orleans Saints Jersey History

The New Orleans Saints played their first season in 1967. Like most expansion teams, they had all sorts of problems in their early days, but they did have some highlights to brag about. Their 3-11 debut season tied the record for most victories by an expansion team in their first year. They also had the honor of making one of the most memorable record-breaking moments in football history when Tom Dempsey kicked a 63-yard field goal on November 8, 1970. That record stood until 2013.

There’s no denying that things were rough for the early Saints, but better times were in store for the franchise. They made their first playoff appearance in 1987. In 1991, they grabbed their first NFC West championship. Their most successful season to date, though, came in 2009. After a high-scoring but kind of odd regular season—they won the first 13 games, then lost the last three—they proved to be unbeatable in the playoffs. They trounced the Indianapolis Colts 31-17 at Super Bowl XLIV to capture the franchise’s first—and so far only—Vince Lombardi Trophy.
