The history of the Toronto Blue Jays commenced in 1977, when they (along with the Seattle Mariners) joined the major leagues as an expansion team. As is usually the case with new MLB arrivals, the early years were rocky for the Blue Jays, but they soon improved—a lot. Their first winning season came in 1983. They captured East Division titles in 1985, 1989, and 1991, only to lose in the subsequent American League Championship Series each time.
1992 was a magical year for the Blue Jays, as they capped a 96-66 regular season with a victory over the Atlanta Braves in the Fall Classic to take home the team's first World Series title. It was also the first-ever World Series win by a Canadian team. They repeated as champions the following season when they beat the Philadelphia Phillies in six games. Although the team has yet to make it back to the World Series, they are still regarded as a tough team to beat. They won a sixth East Division title in 2015.
